The Daily Nugs
Hey there! A fantastic Saturday is shaping up, and we have all the Grateful Dead to make the day all that much better...
On this day in 1978, the boys stormed into the mighty Dane County Coliseum in the midst of some frigid, sub-zero temps and immediately turned up the heat. The show is a monster, but the Dead saved the best for last with a Eyes>Playin>The Wheel>Playin that is just magical. Give it a good listen - and warm up your day - at Grateful Dead of the Day.
In the midst of a Pacific Northwest tour, the Dead are honing new tunes - an early Dark Star and just the third China Cat and fourth Eleven - and turning heads at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon, on this day in 1968. Head over to Grateful Dead of the Day and check out all the action, including Pig strutting his stuff and adding some lovely harp on It Hurts Me Too and Schoolgirl and Jerry's dreamy soloing in the midst of The Other One.
We also have a new Grateful Dead Guests post on the floating member of the Dead, Bruce Hornsby. While Hornsby was an official member of the band for over a hundred shows, he also made 15 guest appearances with the boys. Click on over to read about Bruce's time with the Dead, his long career outside the band, and his relationship with Jerry - including the hysterical phone prank he played on Garcia - and check out a few of Bruce's best shows.
There is a third extant show from this day in 1979 at Market Square Arena in Indy that you might want to give a listen to as well.
Until tomorrow, spread the love and enjoy the music!
