On this day in 1978, some enterprising Deadheads at Duke University broadcasted, taped, photographed, and filmed one of the hottest Dead shows of the year - including an Estimated> Eyes and Truckin'> Wharf Rat that is truly the music of the gods - at their own beloved Cameron Indoor Stadium. Enjoy the fruits of the Duke students' labor by watching and listening to this phenomenal show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
On this day in 1970, none other than Miles Davis - having just released Bitches Brew - opened for the Dead at the Fillmore. After watching Miles, Phil wanted to “go home and try to digest this unbelievable shit.” But play the Dead did, unleashing a powerful three-set show of their own, including an all-time great Dancin’ In The Streets.
