Though the Dead shared the bill with the Lemon Pipers and the Pranksters, the Dead still had time for three immaculate sets, including mid-show acoustic one. Pig eviscerated an epic Hard to Handle and Lovelight, and Jerry threw in some sweet licks throughout. But the band is way more than the sum of its parts, particularly during the ridiculous Other One suite. Listen to the entire show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
There is nothing but good things to say about the Dead's show from this day in 1982, except perhaps that they failed to play Promised Land in their only Norfolk appearance. But this oversight is completely overshadowed by the extraordinary first set and pristine Scarlet> Fire and Estimated> Eyes with their scintillating transitions, to say nothing of the potentially best-ever Never Trust A Woman. Treat yourself now.
