On this day in 1971, the Dead opened their last run at the hallowed Fillmore East. Along the way, they dropped the only Friend of the Devil of the year, played a rare and lovely I Second That Emotion, delivered a spine-tingling Dew, and, with Pig in the fore, raged through another epic Good Lovin'. What a show! Listen to the whole night and read more at Grateful Dead of the Day.
On the cusp of their epic run through May '77, the Dead made a three-show stand at John Scher's Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey. On this first night, they open the second half with a Scarlet> Fire for the ages, but the crux of the show might still be the Wharf Rat, complete with a massive jam nestled within a Playin’ sandwich. Listen now!
In the friendly confines of the Capitol Theater, the three shows were also filmed, giving us the incredible pleasure of enjoying some of that spring '77 magic on both audio and video. Watch the Dead take a delightful Scarlet Begonias through a magical transition into an explosive Fire On The Mountain.
