10,000 Deadheads - some sneaking in through the roof - stuffed into the august 2,500-seat Manhattan Center on this day back in 1971. They were rewarded with some of the purest, bluesiest, most throw-down, rock and roll that the boys ever played, including the last Easy Wind ever, an early Morning Dew> Playin', and a 26-minute Good Lovin' into GDTRFB> Stephen> NFA> Uncle John's. Treat your ears to the entire show and read more about the night at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The highs of this show are absolutely stratospheric: Jerry opens The Other One on slide as the band delivers a ferocious version; a ranging, elemental Dark Star plumbs the outer realms; and nobody had more unrestrained charisma and mastery than Pig when he was at the height of his powers, and he is right there rapping on the Lovelight in this show. Give this show at the Avalon a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
A crisp remastered video is always a treat, and this 1986 show has a solid setlist with a solid Dire Wolf, a beauty of a Looks Like Rain, and a lovely Box Of Rain encore along with - perhaps the highlight :) - the very last Day Job ever! Check it out over at Grateful Dead of the Day.
