Delivering one of their most psychedelic performances ever, the Dead blazed the show at the Avalon Ballroom on this day back in 1969. As one attendee said, the boys "came close to levitating the whole block," which is completely evident. The show is a scorcher from top to bottom, including a perfect Dupree's, insane acoustic Mountains of the Moon into an electric Dark Star, and China Cat> Doin' That Rag. Levitate while listening to the entire show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The Grateful Dead's second and final appearance on Saturday Night Live was on this day in 1980. They rock Saint of Circumstance and Alabama Getaway, which were both on their soon to be released album, Go To Heaven. Give the segment a listen.
On the last night of a five-day run at Nassau in 1993, the Dead opened the second set with a righteous Scarlet> Fire. Watch it all on a solid audience video at Grateful Dead of the Day.
