With a lot of banter, the Dead delivered an epic raging performance on this day in 1972. The first set is filled with goodness, including an unfiltered Sugaree, a stunningly beautiful Bird Song, and perhaps the best shorter Playin' the boys ever sent. But with a He's Gone> Other One> Black Peter> Other One> Truckin' as its core, the second set is all the match for the first. Just sit back, tune out everything else, and give this show a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Playing Salt Lake City for the first time in eight years on this day in '81, the Dead put up a scintillating Scarlet> Fire - Jerry and Phil in full effect - and a frenetic Eyes. Later, a freaky Space - think interstellar insects mixing it up on a Jew’s harp - somehow moves into a lucid and worldly Spanish Jam before Truckin'> Morning Dew. There is also a tremendous Althea and a full complement of other treats from the night at the Salt Palace. Give it all a listen.
