The days between is a fitting name for the holy week between Jerry’s birthday on August 1st and the anniversary of his passing on the 9th, referencing, as it does, one of the last collaborations between Robert Hunter and Garcia. Head over to Grateful Dead of the Day to read our reflection on the tune and listen to some lovely versions of this emotional song.
A feisty Promised Land takes the boys out of the gate on this day back in '76. A bit later, a few fans were overwhelmed by the appearance of Cassidy, going positively ape-shit. But it is the Playin' sandwich - with a nice filler of Wharf Rat> Jam> GDTRFB - in the second set that will really make you go berserk. It also provoked some ticketless Heads to set fire to the wooden fence at the back of the venue, bringing the fire department and the end to the Dead's tenure at Colt Park. Listen to the entire show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Jerry helped mediate a truce to the Light Artists Guild strike before this show in 1969, opening the way for the Dead to take the stage at the Family Dog. And the boys deliver, sending a raging Other One Suite and a massive, heady Lovelight among other treats. Read more and check out the show.
