At the Frost during the tail end of a Bay Area summer in 1983, the boys played a fantastic show. The tour-de-force of the first set is the Minglewood, Bird Song, LL Rain trio in the middle, as heady as they come. And the second half is strong throughout with a 15-minute Dancin' opener and a ranging, exploratory Estimated> Eyes slotted right before Drums. Give the entire show a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The second set from today's 1980 show at Chicago's Uptown Theater is a thing of beauty, including a spacious and ranging Althea, enchanting Sailor> Saint, and imperious Terrapin all before Drums. Yet the highlight of it all is the massive Morning Dew that breaks forth in all its beautiful melancholy splendor after a funky Not Fade Away. Listen to it all and read more.
