In the midst of 1983's summer amphitheater tour, the Dead played three dates at the intimate 2443-seat Silva Hall in Eugene. The boys responded by throwing up some great sets, beginning with the Shakedown opener here. Sit back and enjoy all the night's frenetic magic at Grateful Dead of the Day, from the almost ragtime China Cat to the rapturous fast-paced raging of the Other One.
It was just another night of sensational music from the boys at the Seattle Center back on this date back in 1982. The upbeat Straw opener, meaty West LA Fadeaway, and smoking Let It Grow highlight the first set. But it is the second half that really scorches, starting with the Samson and continuing into the He's Gone with its lengthy jam into Drums. And the back half of the set, with a steamy NFA into a stunning Wharf Rat before a classic Sugar Mags closer, is just as good. Give it all a listen.
