The Mississippi Half-Step opener on this night proves to be the perfect way to capture that idle, expansive feel of a late summer evening and sets the Dead off on a luscious, fecund exploration. By the time the boys kick off the second set with Terrapin> Estimated, things are hot, sticky, and just so ripe and heady. And to cap it all, Jerry delivers a beautiful She Belongs to Me in the encore. Listen to all the magic from this last night of August 1985 at Grateful Dead of the Day.
On this day in '78, the Dead debuted Shakedown and From the Heart of Me at Red Rocks. The drummers also combined on a magnificent Drums> Ollin Arageed before a rollicking NFA into a moving Black Peter. But the entire night is spectacular. Give it a listen.
