From this date back in '74, there is a brilliant China Cat that streaks off in a feverish romp before a mesmerizing segue into I Know You Rider. But it is the Truckin' that steals the show. Emerging out of a loose, noodling jam after a powerful He's Gone, the Truckin’ works through some monstrous jams and spacey interludes, hinting at The Other One, and just barreling along over thirty minutes before a haunting Stella Blue finally rises from Truckin's ashes. Check it all out at Grateful Dead of the Day.
At the beginning of a heady month of shows outside the Bay Area, the Dead played Toronto's O'Keefe Center, opening for Jefferson Airplane as part of Bill Graham's "The San Francisco Scene in Toronto" on this day back in 1967. We get a primal Lovelight and Alligator that are not to be missed. Check it out and read more about the Dead's adventures in August 1967.
With a Scarlet> Fire> Estimated> Eyes, an Ollin Arageed out of Drums, and a three-song encore, this 1979 show is a burner. Watch it all on remastered video!
