With the first lengthy acoustic set the Dead ever did, they recast their late-‘60s psychedelia, recaptured a bit of their jug-band roots, and, at the same time, imagined something wholly new on this day in 1969. There is also a heady China> Rider that pretty much blows the doors off as an impassioned Jerry guitar run takes them from China Cat right into a sweet and wholesome I Know You Rider. And don't miss the Dark Star, Lovelight, and all the awesome banter at Grateful Dead of the Day.
We have nearly the entire show at Oakland Auditorium on December 26, 1980 on video. And there is a lot of good stuff, including a sweet Althea, lovely Cassidy, and achingly beautiful Peggy-O. But it is hard to pass up this upbeat Scarlet Begonias into a dank and smoky Fire On The Mountain. Fire it up at Grateful Dead of the Day!
