There was a fabulous Brent-heavy, Jerry-infused, Bobby-cheesing show on this day in 1981. Highlights abound, including a scrumptious first set Sugaree with a jam about two-thirds of the way through that builds and builds, eventually coming to a crescendo that elicits an outpouring of joyful noise from the crowd. In the second, an inimitable Playin’ comes out that has to be one of the best of the era as Bobby sing-jams in rhapsodic fashion, creating a fade effect between him and Jerry at one point that is truly unique. Listen to all this and more at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Videos from the 1970s are always a pleasure. And this Sugar Magnolia from the New Year's run at Oakland Auditorium Arena in 1979 is a rocker. Turn it on and turn it up at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The Big Man, Clarence Clemons, added his saxophone to the Grateful Dead's mix back on this day in 1989. Read about Clarence's time with the Dead and tight relationship with Jerry and Bobby.
