The Dead finished off 1979 with a five-show run in Oakland. And on the third night, the boys were en fuego. The action gets started with a majestic Sugaree, arguably one of the best the Dead ever rung up. But the crux of the show is the splendid, panoramic Terrapin and romping Playin’. With a bit of a throwback setlist - no eighties tunes save the Stranger opener - this show in the midst of the 1983 New Year's run at the San Francisco Civic Center is a real treat. Dig the Birdsong, China> Rider, and Wheel> Other One> Stella out of Space, all in crisp, clear remastered video at Grateful Dead of the Day.
