By this point in 1979, the Godchauxs were nearing the end of their tenure with the band, but that did not stop the boys. In fact the music gets downright frenetic in the second half, with a racy Scarlet> Fire out of the break, a meteoric Estimated> Eyes, and a classic Other One> Wharf Rat> Sugar Mags to see the set out. Give it all a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
We have a short studio recording from this day in 1993 with two takes of Days Between as the Dead prepared the new tune for the road. It is fun and instructive to listen to Jerry discuss his vision for the song, one of his last collaborations with Hunter, in the brief banter. And the two takes, though not perfect, give a glimpse of just how moving Days Between could be. Give the studio session a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
As Zion explains on Archive, he walked into this show with a Misfits t-shirt and a Mohawk and, after the Stranger opener grabbed him and the rest of the show sucked him in, he left as a Deadhead for life. If that does not make you want to check out this show, then how about the promise of a Just A Little Light that proves Brent could have been an 80s pop star, a treat of a Wheel out of Space, and a feisty Sugar Mags closer? Click on over to Grateful Dead of the Day and give it all a listen.
