The boys always seemed to put in an incredible performance at the Dane, and the show from this day in 1973 is no exception. One of the best of Jerry's Loose Lucys opens the gem-filled front half, which includes a sparkly Playin' that's jammed into the stratosphere and, yet, is just so sweetly sung and perfectly put together. In the second half, the TLEO is beautiful, but the Dark Star> Eyes> China Doll will blow your mind. Phil absolutely lets loose with a full on carpet bombing in the middle of the Dark Star, and Jerry destroys the China Doll with haunting vocals and beastly licks. Listen to the entire show and read more at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Any show from 1969 is a treat, and this one is no exception. The Dead fire throughout, and there are a lot of tasty nuggets. All the usual suspects are hot, but the beginning and end of the show really stand out. A frenetic Cryptical> Drums> Other One> Cryptical really smokes after a hot Doin’ That Rag opener. Towards the end of the night, the Dead melt whoever’s face was not already in a puddle with the Alligator> Drums> Alligator> Caution. Click on over and give it a listen.
