The Dead delivered a ranging, beautiful, and, at times, frenetic show in their last date at San Diego's Golden Hall. The Franklin's and Samson are both particularly tasty, and the Playin', sparkling all the way into Drums, is downright otherworldly. But, still, the best tune of the night may very well be the Let It Grow; Jerry’s jamming repeatedly reaches stratospheric levels before cascading back to earth in a thunderous, headlong rush. And while Garcia drives the intensity, Weir’s vocals do justice to Barlow’s powerful words. Listen to it all at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The inimitable Cap run continued on this day in 1971 as the boys delivered another stunner. The band worked the just-debuted Wharf Rat into the rotation, bringing it out of a steamy Other One once again. There is also a hot electric Ripple, one of only three the Dead ever played, along with a smoky Lovelight to send off the show. Revel in the magic of those six nights at the Capitol.
We have some outtakes from the Mars Hotel sessions and a beautiful Terrapin that may or may not have been from this exact day in 1977. Give a listen to the Dead putting the album together over at Grateful Dead of the Day.
There is so much to love about this 1991 show from the Kaiser, but be sure to check out Jerry's concentration and finger work on the incredible eight-minute jam from Scarlet Begonias into Fire On The Mountain when you are watching it on video at Grateful Dead of the Day.
