Closing out a three-night Interstate 5 tour back in 71, the boys kick off with Truckin' and never look back, eventually ending the show with a mammoth Lovelight and NFA>GDTRFB sandwich backed up by a steamy Good Lovin'> Uncle John's. You can bet that Pig is in rare form during that stretch, alternatively entrancing and terrorizing the audience while the rest of the band sets off the tumultuous, sweaty binge. Listen to it all at Grateful Dead of the Day.
On this day back in 1993, the Dead opened the year at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. Check out the full video of the show. And take a moment to read our rundown of the first Dead shows of every year and listen to a few of these seal breakers at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Happy birthday to John Belushi, the self-proclaimed Jerry Garcia of comedy. A life-long Deadhead and friend of the band, Belushi crushed his one appearance on stage with the band. Read more about Belushi's relationship with the band and celebrate his birthday by listening to that show.
