The Dead had been “busted, down on Bourbon Street” earlier in the morning, but that did not stop them from playing an incredible show on this day in 1970. Cold Rain and Snow opens the action, there is a beautiful melancholy Morning Dew, and Pig kills it on Big Boss Man and Hard to Handle. But about halfway through, the boys break an amp, leading to some extended acoustic action. And that is where the real magic is, on tunes like Seasons, Long Black Limousine, and Been All Around the World. Give it all a listen and read more about the excitement at Grateful Dead of the Day.
We also have another new guest bio to share with you all today, this one on Carter Beauford, drummer and founding member of The Dave Matthews Band. When Carter was just three, Beauford’s dad, unable to find a babysitter, took him to a Buddy Rich concert. Entranced, Beauford was hooked on percussion since. Beauford joined the Grateful Dead on stage only once, on May 21, 1995, in Vegas. Listen to that show and read more about Beauford over on the site.
