By the second show of 1978, Jerry's laryngitis was full-blown, but that did not stop the band as they stormed into the Golden Hall in San Diego for a night of incendiary Jerry guitar work while Bobby and Donna took care of the vocals and the entire band combined on a ferocious show. A blisteringly unrestrained Let It Grow, intense and profound Jack Straw, monumental 23+ minute disco-fied Dancin', and a crazy syncopated beast of a NFA highlight the night. Listen to it all at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Rescheduled from the previous November, this early January show at Madison Square Garden is a barn burner. Highlights include the Shakedown, Estimated, and Eyes of the World, especially the lovely transition between the two latter tunes. Unfortunately, the PA system starts squawking in Black Peter, marring the rest of the night. But click on over to Grateful Dead of the Day and give this rare early January show a listen.
