The oldest recording of the Dead that we have is from the first of the Merry Pranksters' dance hall acid tests, which went down at the Fillmore on this day in 1966. There is some positively antediluvian Dead on the recording, with classic Pig fronting on King Bee and Hog for You Baby and an acid-drenched Caution and Death Don't Have No Mercy. You can also listen to the whole night's affair and see if you can pass the test yourself with Ken Babbs and the rest of the Pranksters guiding you along. Tune in and drop out at Grateful Dead of the Day.
