Bringing the tribe together at Alpine Valley for just the second time, the Dead delivered a heady show back in 1981. A top-notch Bird Song and China> Rider are the highlights from the early going while a He's Gone> Truckin'> Space> Other One> Stella form the core of the latter half. Enjoy this sweet one from summer tour '81 at Grateful Dead of the Day.
This primal show from 1969 at the old World's Fair Pavilion in NYC has Pig dialing it up on Hard to Handle - with Jerry on pedal steel - and Big Boss Man before a devastating Lovelight. But there is everything from a massive Caution Jam> Other One> Death Don't Have No Mercy - with TC in full effect - to a sweet Silver Threads to a heady Dupree's, the last until 1977. Give it a listen.
Happy birthday to Suzanne Vega, born on this day in 1959. Vega sat in with the Dead only once, but considers the experience one of the absolute highlights of her long and illustrious career. Read about that show at Madison Square Garden and the mutual respect and admiration that Vega and Jerry had for one another.
