On this day in 1970, David Crosby joined the boys on Cumberland to end what had been an acoustic first set. In the electric second half, Bobby busted out the first El Paso, everyone came together to deliver a positively transcendent Other One suite, and Pig rapped on a tight and sweet Good Lovin'. Yeah, it was all just another night of inimitable magic from the Grateful Dead. Read more and listen to the entire show.
While the previous two nights at the Orpheum were spectacular, the Dead seem to be getting better with each show of this run. On this day, they play a perfect stand alone Scarlet Begonias, end the first half with a deep and psychedelic Playin'> Drums> Wheel> Playin' sandwich, and deliver a rare and lovely second set Friend Of The Devil. And that is to say nothing of the incredible stretch of Let It Grow> Eyes Of The World> Wharf Rat> Other One> Music Never Stopped. Listen now at Grateful Dead of the Day.
How about this from 1990: Shakedown opener. Eyes> Estimated> Crazy Fingers> UJB. Encore of a definitive This Could Be The Last Time into a lovely We Bid You Goodnight. Enjoy the video!
