A feverishly fast-paced Scarlet, gleaming Jack Straw, and soulful, pleading Sugaree highlight the first set of the Dead's Hollywood Bowl appearance on this date in 1974. The second half takes it up a notch further still, beginning with a seriously tasty China> Rider and building to an earth-shattering Playin'> Wharf Rat> Truckin'> Nobody's Fault Jam> Playin'. Fire up the show and savor it at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Charlie Miller worked his magic on what was a rough recording, and we now have a crisp tape of this night in '72. It reveals a righteous show, including a juicy China> Rider and stellar Playin' in the first set. Also don't miss the aborted WRS into Me & My Uncle; we are not quite sure what happened there, but it is great to hear Bobby laughing. Of course, the He's Gone> Truckin'> Drums> Other One> Comes a Time is the real crux of the evening. Give the new mix or any of the other recordings a good listen.
The Dead were firing on all cylinders as they came into Chicago on this day in 1990. Of course, this would sadly end up being the last stand with Brent, but that just makes the music all the more special. Take it all in on remastered video, including the final Dear Mr. Fantasy.
