Touring with Dylan back in '87, the Dead opened with what might just be the consummate Jack Straw. And from there the loveliness did not abate as the boys played in mind-meld form throughout the night, delivering perfection at nearly every turn. The third set with Dylan was no different with Brent’s frenetic electricity and the utter seamless cacophony of Maggie’s Farm, Jerry on pedal steel for I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight, and the sheer beauty of Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door to see the set out. Listen to all the magic at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Watch Jerry and the boys deliver a very fine Friend Of The Devil on video of this day's Oakland show with Bob Dylan back in 1987.
While Jerry flubs some lyrics and the song selection is a bit questionable at times, this 1994 show has some extraordinary moments, including a remarkable Eyes and top-shelf Days Between. The crowd certainly enjoyed it all, roaring with approval and raucously singing along on the Throwing Stones> NFA. Tell us you would not want to be dancing in front of Jerry and the boys right now, surrounded by 60,000 of your closest friends. And while those days have sadly passed, you can at least give it all a listen.
