The highlight of the show back on this day in 1988 is the incredible breakup of China> Rider, as the boys insert a stunning Crazy Fingers in the middle of the two. All of it is so well played with Phil really nailing the bombs and all the boys hitting their stride. But the shear surprise of it all will give you goosebumps. The Dead played outside the United States for the first time on this day in 1966 at the Vancouver Trips Festival. Continuing the exploration of consciousness that the earlier San Francisco Trips Festival had started, the Vancouver version including light shows, music, projections, and good old LSD. It also had the Grateful Dead exploring styles, burnishing their playing and presence, and moving towards the inimitable psychedelic sound of the latter part of the 60s. On a cold and rainy night in 1994, the Dead delivered a powerful Standing On The Moon and a fun Mighty Quinn encore amongst other treats at Buckeye Lake. Take in the entire show on ths remastered video.
