On this day in '66 the Dead played a fabulous primal show with Jerry throwing in some Dick Dale-like surf licks and Pig killing it on vocals and organ. An early Dancin' In The Streets and deep, psychedelic Viola Lee highlight the action. You will not want to miss this early nugget! Check it out at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The Red Rocks run from a few days later gets all the attention, but the Dead threw down in St. Paul on this night in 1978 as well. A Scarlet into a dark and trippy Fire starts the second set action and the band never looks back, heading into an inventive, disco-fied Dancin' and sending a positively stratospheric Stella. But don't sleep on the first half, which includes a stunning Peggy-O and ferocious Music Never Stopped, or the Werewolves encore, for that matter. Give it all a listen.
