Good morning Deadheads, happy Friday, and welcome to the first day of March. May we recommend you cue up some Grateful Dead and enjoy this lovely day, the fabulous weekend to follow, and all the glories of the season.
Back on this day in 1969, the Dead began their first set by blasting into a Cryptical, sparking what is arguably the best Other One suite ever. The rest of the show is replete with highlights too, including a monumental Dark Star> Stephen> Lovelight and tasty Hey Jude encore. Listen to the whole show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The Touch of Grey opener from this day in 1987 is emblematic of the show itself: bright, fun, and well-played. And there are so many other nuggets: the Let It Grow with Mickey and Billy’s powerful drumming, Jerry’s buoyant intricate guitar work, and Bobby's vivacious vocals; Brent’s keys and Jerry’s guitar lighting up a Scarlet Begonias before an all-round effort on a top-shelf Fire On The Mountain; and a haunting Black Muddy River. But it is the Black Peter that takes the cake with a lengthy, evocative jam on its way out. Dig into the show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
