On this day in '66, the Dead played an Acid Test, delivering a ferocious Viola Lee, a bunch of rarities, and some funny banter throughout. This is primal Dead at its most raw...give the whole show a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
At the Bammies in 1988, the Grateful Dead swept the proceedings with Phil Lesh winning for bassist of the year, Mickey and Billy taking home drummer of the year, Jerry claiming both guitarist and musician of the year, and In The Dark leaving with the album of the year. The Dead went on to play three tunes with Huey Lewis and the News and John Fogerty. Read more and listen to the proceedings or watch it all on absolutely stunning video.
Owsley "Bear" Stanley, who created over 5 million doses of LSD in the 60s, built the Wall of Sound, designed the Stealie, and accomplished so much more passed away on this day in 2011. Celebrate Owsley's life and his immense impact on the Grateful Dead by reading our bio.
