The Dead delivered some mind-blowing performances during Spring Tour 1990, including on this day at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario. In fact, it includes one of the very best latter-day Scarlet> Fires ever. And, post-Space, the boys finish it off with a tasty Other One> Hey Jude> Dear Mr. Fantasy> Hey Jude> Sugar Mags. Listen and watch the entire show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
If you just come into this show and listen on it merits, you will be floored. This is some classic ’72 Grateful Dead with an early and so sweet Two Souls In Communion, one among a trio of second-time played songs. There is also that little matter of the Caution with its heady, intriguing jam into Uncle John’s. May we suggest that you just be in the moment and take in this blissful night of Grateful Dead music. The joyous speed of Greatest Story Ever Told will suck you in immediately. And the youthful powers that Jerry brings to bare in the Deal that follows will entrance. From there you will surely be locked in. Head on over to Grateful Dead of the Day and do it.
This night at Hampton in ‘87 is the first East Coast Dead show since Jerry's coma, and it is one of the first times since that unfortunate event that the band is really firing on all cylinders, from that opening Hell In A Bucket onwards. Check out that Sugar Magnolia second set opener, right into Scarlet> Fire, Estimated and all the rest of the magic on this masterfully reworked multi-shot video.
