From Grateful Dead of the Day
One of the most epic shows in Grateful Dead history went down on this day in 1990 as Branford Marsalis made his first appearance alongside the boys. A deep connection formed immediately between Branford, Jerry, and the rest of the band, producing a magical night of music, particularly the transcendent Bird Song, Eyes, and Dark Star. You have surely listened to the incredible show with Branford Marsalis sitting in with the boys. But you may not have ever had the pleasure of watching it. And Christopher Hazard has now provided us with a remastered version of the original Peanut Productions source. Feast your eyes and ears on the Bird Song, Eyes Of The World, and all the rest of the action at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The Dead are at their psychedelic apogee as they roll into the Ice Palace, a skating rink not far from the Vegas Strip, for a shared bill with Santana and local band Free Circus. The boys crush the set, including a powerful Morning Dew, Schoolgirl and Lovelight, and Dark Star> Saint Stephen> Eleven. Head over to Grateful Dead of the Day, take in the lysergic brilliance, and imagine seeing the Dead when the mob still controlled Vegas on this night in 1969.

I trekked with friends down the Northeast Extension to The Spectrum on this day back in 1987 and witnessed an absolutely smoking spring tour show that left 18,000+ Heads delirious! From the Bucket→Bertha opener to the Mighty Quinn encore, this show rips, and I make it a point to celebrate it each and every March 29th~
