From Grateful Dead of the Day
The boys played a lot of smoking shows at Winterland over the years. And the '72 show from this day is as righteous as any of them. Check out the night, including the first Black-Throated Wind, a heady Good Lovin' with Pig rapping and a Mind Left Body jam, and a shot of NFA> GDTRFB> NFA at Grateful Dead of the Day.
There is so much energy in this 1981 show, nowhere more so than on The Music Never Stopped, which is an exceptionally fervid end to the first half. To start the second, Jerry takes a fall and has a cigarette while Big Steve fixes his guitar and the rest of the boys launch into a lovely jam into Passenger. When Jerry finally joins them again, he unleashes. But of course, that is not all, there is also a tremendous Scarlet> Fire and an amazing jam from Not Fade Away into Wharf Rat. This is quite a good 1992 show, busting out of the gate with a hot Help> Slip> Franklins. The Jack-A-Roe is also another solid little nug in the middle of that first set. The second set gets even better with a nice Eyes and Estimated and a fun Wheel out of Space. So Many Roads is none too bad there towards the end either. Cue it up!
On this day in 1983, John Belushi, the legendary Jerry Garcia of comedy, passed on. Belushi was a long-time friend of the Dead and added his cartwheels and vocals on US Blues back in 1980.
