From Grateful Dead of the Day
On this day back in 1974, the Dead played their only Montana show ever. But what a show it was, highlighted by a monumental Weather Report Suite> Dark Star> China Doll. Perhaps the boys never made it back to the state because, right before the encore, Bobby got hit with a beer pitcher. Whatever the reason, at least we have this Treasure State magic. There are more than enough excellent jams to go along with a crafty setlist to make this 1980 show a keeper. The Alabama Getaway> Promised Land high octane opener brings the heat from the get-go, and other treats abound, including an intense Let It Grow> Althea and Stranger> Sugaree.
