Back on this day in 1974, the Dead played an epic Wall of Sound show, highlighted by an amazing Truckin' (with a Mind Left Body jam) and an unbelievable Weather Report Suite into Wharf Rat. Listen to it all at Grateful Dead of the Day.
As the Spring '77 tour winds its way through the South, the Dead throw up another incredible show. In the first set, Sugaree sets the stage as Jerry's guitar weeps with melancholy and his vocals provide the utterly perfect accompaniment, Bobby and Donna harmonize deliciously on a surprisingly bright and bouncy LL Rain, and a super disco Dancin' closes it out. The second half is all the match for the first, highlighted by a Playin' sandwich with UJB> Drums> Wheel> China Doll as the filling. Fire it up and give this second night at the famed Fox Theatre a listen.
Vinny finally prevailed on the rest of the band to bring Baba O'Reilly and Tomorrow Never Knows into the repertoire on this day in 1992. And glad we are for it, as the pairing provided one of the pleasures of the later years all dozen times the Dead broke it out. Listen to that first version and read more about Baba O'Reilly> Tomorrow Never Knows.
