The boys deliver another brilliant performance - this time from Lakeland, Florida - during spring tour on this day in 1977. Jerry is particularly on, sending out pure bliss with his resplendent guitar work and textured, resonant vocals. The Scarlet> Fire is a match for Barton Hall, and the post-Drums Other One> Comes A Time> Stephen> NFA> Stephen is an emotionally pregnant roller coaster ride full of raw, transcendent beauty. Give the entire show a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The Dead kick up some high level Wall of Sound wizardry in this classic 1974 outing. The show is well-known for the Playin’ In The Band, which at forty-six plus minutes, is the longest they ever played. It also happens to be a truly awesome sweep from fecund and joyous to a deathly feedback jam and all the way back again to the promised land. In short, it is a masterpiece. Just sample the Weather Report Suite> China Doll and Eyes> Wharf Rat> Sugar Magnolia. Listen to it all at Grateful Dead of the Day.
