With a 15-minute Shakedown opener, Picasso Moon> Fire, Cassidy> Uncle John's> Cassidy, and a raging Gloria, the 1993 show from this date is a real treat. Dig the entire sweet '90s show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Topping the bill at an AIDS fundraiser back in 1989, the Dead threw down a tremendous night of music, aided by Clarence Clemons, who sat in for most of the two sets. Jerry and Bobby had already played in John Fogerty's band and recorded an advertisement earlier, but that did not hold them back a bit as the boys delivered on Althea, Bird Song, Blow Away, Fire, and so much more. But it is the raging Other One with Phil bombing away on that is the crux of the evening. Listen in.
And since the Big Man joined the Dead on stage on that night in ‘89, read about Clarence's time with the Dead and his close friendship with Jerry in our Grateful Dead Guest post.
