With an 18-minute Sugaree and an epic Estimated> Playin'> Terrapin> NFA> Wharf Rat> Playin' that is simply mind-boggling, this show is one of the best of the spring '77 campaign. Listen to all the insanity out of Hartford and read a little about Estimated Prophet at Grateful Dead of the Day.
In anticipation of returning from their hiatus, the Dead spent time at Club Front, their erstwhile studio and clubhouse of sorts, rounding the music into form and recapturing some of their extrasensory communication powers. Listening to some of the laid-back and spacey renditions of Lazy Lightning, Eyes, Playin', Attics, Cassidy, and other familiar favorites, its hard to believe the boys even needed the tune-up. Give the sessions a listen yourself.
A very happy birthday to the American violin virtuoso Papa John Creach who was born on this day back in 1917. Papa John played with anyone and everyone - including with the Dead back in 1970 - and always brought crazy energy along with his sick fiddle. Read more about Creach and listen to the times he sat in with the boys.
