From Good Lovin' to Two Souls in Communion, Pigpen is all over this show. But it is the brilliant, episodic, 40-minute Dark Star that dominates the Dead's second night in Paris, halfway through the Europe '72 tour. Listen to the entire show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The Dead's first show at Hampton back in 1979 was a scorcher, and from the Half-Step> Franklin's opener onwards, the crowd is just as fired up as the boys are. Jerry and Brent create magic throughout, but no more so than on the spacey, effervescent jam that takes Estimated into Eyes. But it is Bobby who fuels a no-holds-barred rock and roll extravaganza to close out the night with the Truckin' and Around and Around, sending the crowd into an absolute fervor. Buckle up and listen to it all.
