An immaculate first set gets things started, capped by a stratospheric China Cat before a solid Rider. But the second half and its triple-shot Other One magic is where this show really blows up. There, a steamy Truckin' sets up a tremendously deep and groovy jazz jam that segues into the first Other One, spinning forth, righteous and sublime before rising to a hip and driving Big River and back into the dark ether of TOO again. Then it is a short, but so sweet Eyes before a final Other One charges and feints into the deep recesses of the universe. Give it all a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Though there are just two songs on this studio recording from the Dead's infancy back in 1967, you are going to want to check them out. The Born Cross-Eyed here is a sweet alternative version from the official release, and it concludes with a little bit of Feedback that is a ton of fun. Then we get a precious acoustic Dark Star, the earliest recording of that tune. Give this antediluvian relic a listen!
