The Dead played six shows over the years at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, but the best of the lot was, arguably, on this day in 1973. The boys get out of the gate with Me and My Uncle and, as they were wont to do in '73, followed it up with a meaty, immaculate set. But somehow the second half is even better with an unbelievable Playin’> UJB> Morning Dew> UJB> Playin’, a beautiful Stella, and an amazing Eyes, all before a steamy Sugar Mags takes it out. Give the entire show a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Tom Ribe got on the bus as a teenager growing up in Los Alamos, New Mexico. And his neighbors were the ones that turned him on. But still, even as those neighbors offered to take him, his folks wouldn’t let him go to the Albuquerque show on November 17, 1971. Listen to Tom tell this tale and others from his lifetime as a Deadhead.
