There might only be one extant show from this date in Dead history, but it does not mean it is not a fine little masterpiece. The show gets out of the gate with a nice Jack Straw before heading into a lovely Peggy-O with some studied playing by Jerry that seems to mesh perfectly with Bobby’s guitar work, Brent’s keys, and Phil’s relaxed bass. That sort of mind-meld performance continues throughout the rest of the evening, including on what might very well be the best-ever To Lay Me Down before a Let It Grow> Terrapin into Drums. Listen to the entire show at Grateful Dead of the Day.
