On this day in 1973, the Dead kicked off a three-show run at Winterland. The boys delivered a scrumptious first set, highlighted by a transcendent China> Rider right before the set-closing, 21-minute Playin'. The second half gets steamy out of the gate with Here Comes Sunshine - with Keith in full effect - and rolls along through to the show's crux, a meaty Weather Report Suite> Eyes> China Doll. Fire it up and give this one a good listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Our podcast guest, Don Defenderfer, was at that ‘73 run, as well as so many other epic ones during the 70s. He shares his stories of first getting turned on by his brother at UCSB earlier in the year then being sure he and his friends were at this day’s show. Listen to these and so many of Don’s other ones on this episode of the Heads' Tales podcast.
