The show from this day in 1994 is one of the gems of the later years. It shines from top to bottom starting off with a sick Help> Slip> Franklin's opener that goes into a delightful Walkin' Blues and an always welcome Althea. There is also a monster, nearly thirty-minute Scarlet> Fire and a beatific Stella. But that is only scraping the surface of what this show has going on. And we have it all on a crispy Hunter Seamon's matrix. Throw away your preconceptions of the mid-90s and give the show a good listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
A stratospheric stand-alone Scarlet - Phil bombing away and Jerry just lighting off - highlights the first set of the show from this day in 1976. The second half has two distinct monster sections: a Help> Slip> Franklin's and a Dancin' bookending and weaving through The Wheel and Ship of Fools. With Keith putting in some mesmerizing discordant fills in Slipknot! and Jerry making incredible runs in Franklin's, the entire suite is off the hook. But the Dancin' segment is just as insatiable, including an insane Drums section and a jam that somehow combines the dark rapture of The Wheel and the groove of Dancin’, all while being just flat-out funky. Give the entire show a listen!
As we already said, the show from the Boston Garden was one of the highlights of 1994. And we are lucky to have a completely remastered video of the entirety of the second set, including the opening Scarlet> Fire. So click on over and treat your ears...and eyes!
And if you dig video, you should fire up the Morning Dew from this day in 1988.
