On this day in 1984, the Dead put up one of the best shows of the year at the Augusta Civic Center. Starting off with a Stranger, the boys bust through an energetic first set with a painfully beautiful Must Have Been the Roses and a top-shelf Cumberland. The second is brilliant throughout as well, capped by a stunning, earth-rattling Morning Dew. Fire it up at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Check out the pure bliss of this '68 show at the Avalon. From the opening Morning Dew through the incredibly fierce Other One to the twenty minutes of unbelievable jamming that ends the show, this is primal Dead at its apogee. And what's more, Jimi Hendrix was supposedly waiting in the wings, hoping to play with the boys but snubbed by Jerry.
Brent is all over this one with a typically energetic Blow Away and some amazing keys on the likes of Tennessee Jed and Hey Pocky Way. But stay for the Other One> Wharf Rat> Sugar Mags! Check out the entirety of today’s 1989 show on video.
