With the sun setting on the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the background, the Dead threw down a massive evening of music on this day in 1982, beginning with a sweet Half-Step> Franklin's. The first set also includes a really hot Althea and a smoking jam in Deal. And the second set builds on the earlier one, opening with Shakedown and including an incredible Never Trust a Woman in the early going. But it is the six songs post-Space that are truly epic. Give it all a listen at Grateful Dead of the Day.
Today’s 1983 effort might be one of the rare Dead shows where the first set surpasses the second. It all starts with a spectacular sixteen-minute Sugaree, and the fireworks keep coming all the way through to the ferocious and unrelenting Deal set capper. But don’t quit on the second half with its magisterial Terrapin, tremendous Wheel, and Revolution encore. Give it all a listen.
