Right before one of the finest standalone Let It Grows ever, Phil announces to the crowd that "I just want you all to know out there, this is the happiest day of my life," and that says just about all you need to know about this 1977 show. The boys are in mind-meld mode the entire night, throwing off rainbows, lightning bolts, and moonbeams. Give it all a listen, including the trippy and powerful Estimated> Eyes> Space> Stephen> Drums> NFA, at Grateful Dead of the Day.
After a ranging, high-octane, and inventive Cryptical> Drums> Other One> MAMU> Other One> Cryptical> Deal opens the second half, sending the crowd into exultation, Bobby nonchalantly quips, “yeah, we’re going to play all that note for note backwards now.” To which Jerry replies, “and it goes something like this” just as the band sets off on a stunning Sugar Mags. Yeah, it should go without saying, you'll want to check out all the action on this 1971 night.
