With surely one of the best Wharf Rats ever and a monstrous Terrapin> Playin' the Dead played a gem of a show - for the University of New Mexico's homecoming - back on this date in 1977. Check it out at Grateful Dead of the Day and enjoy this lovely night.
Just over halfway through their 15-show stand at the Warfield in 1980, the Dead deliver once again, beginning with an acoustic rendering of Iko that includes all the infectious energy of the New Orleans classic. Jerry's picking on Dark Hollow and Heaven Help The Fool, along with the by now expected Ripple closer are some of the other highlights of the acoustic first set. But treats abound in the electric going as well especially with a mellow but fully funky Shakedown opener to the second set, an ethereal Wheel breaking out of Space, and a scorching jam on the end of Stella Blue. Listen to all three sets and revel in the intimate, hometown atmosphere at Grateful Dead of the Day.
