Branford joined the boys (with Bruce) for his third time on this day in 1991. The second set is just magical, beginning with a splendid Help> Slip> Franklin's. The Franklin's, in particular, is just sublime, luscious in its bright and rounded jams, making for a spacious, transcendent soundspace with some lovely vocal harmonies. But don't miss the masterful Dark Star and utterly beautiful Standing on the Moon. Take it all in at Grateful Dead of the Day.
The Dead continued their 1974 assault on Europe on this day. And while the three-quarters of an hour of Dark Star> Morning Dew is rightfully thought of as the crux of the show, other treats abound, including an immaculate WRS> Stella and the heady China> Rider. Listen to it all now.
Seeing the Dead in your hometown is great. But getting to show the band your local area is another thing altogether. Listen to Tom Ribe talk about hanging with the boys in Santa Fe on this date in 1983.
That aforementioned 1991 MSG show where Branford spurs on a tremendous night of music, is all captured on this immaculate remastered video that you will not want to miss.
