When a show starts off with Help> Slip> Franklin's, you know you are in for a treat. And when David Murray comes out to sit in with the boys, things are going to be heady. Well, both occurred back on this day in 1993. There is so much magic here, but be sure to check out how Murray ratchets up the action in Bird Song, Estimated, Dark Star, and Wharf Rat, drawing out each member of the band and putting a big smile on Jerry's face and some extra sauce in his guitar. Listen to the entire night at MSG on Grateful Dead of the Day.
When the boys hit the Spectrum, you know the sparks are going to fly. And the gates bust open on this 1987 night in Philly with a torrid Hey Pocky Way, Brent’s fervent energy and charisma just lighting up the old arena. In addition to a little Addams Family tuning, the first set also contains a stunning Althea, sizzling Rooster, and scorching Deal closer. In the second half, Spencer Davis joins the boys on Gimme Some Lovin' and the Dead turn in a vivid and powerful Terrapin, a lovely Handsome Cabin Boy jam, and a gorgeous Stella. But the sum is really more than the already rich parts, so check it all out!
And this is a fabulous audience video of almost all of a spectacular night at the Spectrum.
